The Dennett Valley Health Network was created in the village of Donemana/Dunamanagh some 5 years ago, in an effort to address social/rural isolation and good relations.
About
The Dennett Valley Health Network offers a broad range of activities to fulfil its mission of nurturing community well-being. From woodcarving, woodturning, and guitar or fiddle lessons to weekly polytunnel and environmental gardening tutorials, our programmes cater to all age groups and focus on preserving local, traditional methods of plant growth and pest control. Our site is open twelve hours per day, seven days a week, providing ample opportunities for recreation and social engagement.
Our walking groups meet twice weekly to explore and celebrate our local built, natural, and cultural heritage, while volunteers can avail themselves of short courses in angling and environmental awareness education. Every Saturday, the Men’s Shed hosts a free meal for local residents, offering a few hours of meaningful social interaction. During the autumn and winter months, we provide hands-on craft activities and storytelling sessions that highlight centuries-old ways of life once commonplace in our region.
We also collaborate with other community organisations on citizen science and water quality projects, engaging closely with statutory authorities to promote sustainable environmental practices. In addition, we host history talks that spotlight the area’s built, rural, and cultural heritage, ensuring our local stories and traditions continue to thrive for future generations.
